Abstract In poor countries, access to affordable health care goes beyond the provision of cheap medicines and vaccines; it impinges on available health practitioners, the needed infrastructure, a forward-looking research strategy, and, above all, the deep understanding that no one should be deprived of medical attention. This important book considers such provisions and how policies and rules can be adapted at the national, regional, and international levels to meet the needs of patients in developing countries. With contributions from policymakers and legislators in the fields of trade, research, development, migration, and human rights, this discussion identifies some of the ways in which optimal levels of policy alignment can be reached in order to allow developing countries to access affordable health care.
