The aim was to adequately map the vulnerability of the population, the settlement and infrastructures and to embed it in socio-economic change processes at the urban level. Specifically, the publication presents new methods and instruments for future-oriented vulnerability and risk assessment in urban areas with a focus on heat stress. The results contribute to urban development geared towards sustainability and resilience. The project focused on transformation processes at a small-scale level in two German cities (Bonn and Ludwigsburg) that contribute to an increase in the thermal stress of the population. Analyses of the current state and changes in the urban climate were developed in the form of scenarios for the city as a whole and for suburban areas and linked with socio-economic and socio-demographic scenarios on vulnerability. The next step was to explore how the methodological approaches and results could be incorporated into urban development instruments. Conclusions were also drawn on the transferability of the findings to other cities. UNBIS Thesaurus HEAT
