The fecal indicator bacteria Enterococcus spp. and Escherichia coli collected from water sources in the TSL basin were monitored to investigate their antibiotic resistance. Many of the obtained enterococcal isolates were resistant to ciprofloxacin (92%) and erythromycin (81%). The percentages of resistance to ampicillin (67%) and tetracycline (52%) among the E. coli isolates in lake water were higher than the other tested antibiotics. These results indicated that the antibiotic resistance of Enterococcus spp. and E. coli are spread in the TSL and the risk of infection due to ARB in water resource was identified.
