Pages 7 Language eng Abstract Determinants of health are factors external to the individual that influence the health status and health outcomes of individuals and groups in society. These factors interact in complex ways and the effects are situationally and temporally dependent. Ultimately, however, they determine the distribution of health across populations. As a discipline with the tools to explore and theorize the nature of cultural, social, and political processes, anthropology has an important role in enhancing the understanding of the determinants of health and in the development and implementation of strategies that address these determinants. This role is critical if we are to make improvements to the equity in health outcomes. Keyword Applied Anthropology
