The event was organized by the United Nations University Institute on Globalization, Culture and Mobility (UNU-GCM) against the backdrop of the United Nations University’s Chairman- ship of the United Nations Global Migration Group (GMG), an extension of the University’s effort to support Member State negotiations towards a Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in 2018.2 Prior to the Workshop, a research report on Addressing Xenophobia: Representations of Migration and the Role of the Media was prepared by UNU-GCM and circulated to stimulate discussion (hereafter “Addressing Xenophobia”).
