Abstract The key question that guides much of the analysis of case studies contained in this volume is to what extent a Nexus Approach that emphasizes synergies and interdependence across sectors and environmental resources can help advance sustainable development under conditions of global change: urbanization, demographic transformation and climate variability. The case studies discussed in this volume highlight the importance of planning structures and processes and autonomy of local authorities in agenda setting, programme implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
